Viral Video: Mokiki Does the Sloppy Swish

Mokiki does the Sloppy Swish

I’m not much of a dancer.

Actually, that might be giving me way too much credit.

I am an awful f’n dancer. Probably one of the six or seven worst you’ll ever encounter.

My dancing “style” is the same as pretty much every other white, Midwestern dude you’ve ever met. I slide my feet around haphazardly. I clap (completely out of rhythm) and snap with my hands. Occasionally, I’ll pick someone up and swing them about in what appears to be an act of violence, but is really just my ill-fated attempt at “swing dancing.”

I’m basically a walking, talking full-body seizure when I’m on the dance floor.

Despite that fact, it seems that one of my patented dance moves (the “Gravey kickstep”) recently made it to the big time.

It’s going by the name “the sloppy swish” and is prominently featured in a Saturday Night Live skit that is—admittedly—nearly two months old already. Given how old and out of touch I am, however, it seems wholly appropriate that it’s finding a place on my blog now.

Without any further ado, here is Mokiki performing “the Sloppy Swish” on SNL from November:

Now, I don’t want to brag, but seriously, I’ve been rocking that move for years and I’ve been doing it waaaaaaaay better. It’s one of the few moves that I carry in my arsenal and I’m happy to see it finally getting the national attention it deserves via this rockin’ video.

The dance move alone makes for a good video, but once you toss in the fact that it is accompanied by an oddly-catchy tune and an always pleasant Anne Hathaway cameo and I think we’ve got ourselves a winner.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to perfect my move before I challenge Mokiki and zombified Anne Hathaway to a dance-off.
