Apologizing in Advance

I want to go ahead and apologize in advance.

Why am I apologizing you ask?

Well, there’s an 83% chance that I’m going to throat-punch someone today.

You see, I am crazy tired. I didn’t sleep well last night for the fourth night in a row. I think perhaps I’m getting all anxious about the job I’m attempting to apply for at work.

In addition to my piss-poor sleep, I also had to be up and at work early to oversee the removal of a sculpture from the library. Things were slated to get started between 7:00-7:30am, so I made it a point to be up and at ’em bright and early.

I got up just before 6am, played with Honey for a bit, showered, played with Honey for a bit, got dressed, played with Honey for a bit, kissed Grace goodbye, and hit the road.

I rolled onto campus around 6:30 in hopes of snagging some coffee and a quick bite to eat before I had to be at the library.

Unfortunately, I’d completely spaced off the fact that classes aren’t in session and that means the hours for everything in the student center are greatly reduced.

There was going to be no coffee and no snacky-bits available until after 7am…which is precisely when I needed to be at the library.

I sighed and resigned myself to the fact that I’d have to get something from a vending machine. Perhaps an ice-cold Coke and a Rice Krispies Treat to start the day would suffice.

No, no…when I reached the vending machines, I realized that I didn’t have any change or small bills on me. Unless vending machines have randomly started accepting $10 bills, I was out of luck.

I slowly hauled my barely conscious carcass up to the library and (luckily?) found a room temperate bottle of expired Mt. Dew lurking on my desk beneath a stack of papers and envelopes.

I took my buried treasure and began drinking it whilst waddling my way upstairs to let the folks into the library.

As I mentioned earlier, these cats were supposed to start rolling in somewhere between 7:00-7:30am which is why I ensured I was at the library by 6:45am, just in case.

Naturally, the first signs of life from the crew didn’t appear until 7:36am when the facilities crew came in to remove the doors to the reading room so we could get the sculpture out.

It’s 7:53am as I’m writing this and the curator and her crew are just now arriving.

I am tired, barely caffeinated, and a little annoyed…and like I said, it’s not even 8am.

This does not bode well for the rest of the day.

That having been said, my apologies to whomever I end up punching in the throat today.

It’s not you, it’s me (except it was probably a little bit you).

  1. Why can’t people just keep their word? How hard is it to arrive within the 30 minute time slot designated? If it’s related to your job, I think it would be common sense to arrive on time. So sorry you had to deal with people without common sense! I guess the old saying is true: when it rains, it pours! 😦
