Movies from an Alternate Universe

I don’t really like old movies.

There’s no really good reason for it, but I just simply don’t like ‘em.

Grace absolutely loves old movies and always seems a bit annoyed that I never show any interest in them. I can’t really fault her for this. It is pretty douchey on my part.

It’s just that I can’t get past the black and white thing. I can’t get over how insanely out-dated everything is. I can’t seem to follow the generally weak storylines that could almost always be remedied by one simple action that the characters never take.

Now don’t get me wrong here, I’m not attempting to defend modern movies in any way, shape, or form.

I’m just saying that I can’t get into old movies. It’s just not my thing.

Heck, I can barely stand to watch movies from the ‘80s or ‘90s anymore because they look so dated.

That having been said, I can’t help but find myself completely enthralled at the idea of all the throwback movies proposed by Peter Stults over at Behance.com:

Stults takes a more modern movie and creates movie posters with actors and graphics of yesteryear.

It is a very intriguing concept to think about how a contemporary movie would have played out if it were made fifty or sixty years ago.

Despite my general disdain for older movies, I think it would be pretty bad-ass to see James Dean play the role of Ryan Gosling in “Drive” or watch Dean Martin, Jack Lemmon, and Jerry Lewis try to patch together a night of debauchery in “The Hangover.”

Definitely click through to peep the rest of the set.

[Props to Margaret Willison for putting these on my radar.]

  1. Awesome posters. I personally like a lot of older movies, but they’re not for everybody. I suppose you either like them or don’t. Might be because my late granddad adored so many of the old movies.

    • Yeah, I don’t harbor any ill-will toward those who do dig ’em, I just didn’t watch many old movies as a kid so they don’t hold a special place in my heart like they do for you or Grace or other peeps.

I totally get it though. Just not my thing.
